Earth Day 2021: Three Days of Climate Action

Last year we explored the amazing achievements Earth Day 2020 delivered during the global pandemic. From solo clean-ups to artistic awareness campaigns, Earth Day 2020 showed us all that we can still make a positive environmental impact while in a time of great uncertainty. This year, as the world tries to return to normality, Earth Day 2021 has provided us with three days of climate action to help in the fight against climate change and environmental destruction.

The theme of Earth Day 2021 is “Restore our Earth”. Through global, virtual events spanning three days of climate action, this year’s Earth Day will create a feeling of worldwide togetherness, so that we can all play a role in restoring our earth.

Day One: 20th April

On the first day of climate action, Earth Day 2021 will begin with a global youth climate summit led by Earth Uprising, in collaboration with My Future My Voice and OneMillionOfUs, as well as hundreds of young climate activists.

This global youth summit will consist of panels, speeches and discussions on climate change and our impact on the earth. There will also be special messages from youth climate activists including Greta Thunberg, Alexandria Villaseñor and Licypriya Kangujam.

In the evening, the Hip Hop Caucus and its partners will present the “We Shall Breathe” virtual summit, examining climate and environmental justice. The discussions within this virtual event will connect the climate crisis to issues of pollution, poverty, police brutality, and the current pandemic.

Day Two: 21st April

Day two of climate action will focus on the education of awareness. Education International will lead the “Teach for the Planet: Global Education Summit.”

This multilingual virtual meeting will span several time zones, connecting viewers from all around the world to the singular goal of restoring our earth. It will feature prominent activists from every continent and will focus on the crucial role that educators play in combating climate change and why we need transformative climate education.

Day Three: 22nd April

On the official date of Earth Day 2021, EarthDay.org will host its second “Earth Day Live” digital event. The global show will begin at 5pm in the UK and will consist of workshops, panel discussions, and special performances, all focused on the theme of “Restore Our Earth”.

This event will cover a wide range of topics such as, emerging green technologies, clean-ups of our environment, reforestation efforts, and much more.

This live event will allow you to tune in whenever you wish to listen in on an important discussion, be entertained by a musical performance, or gain inspiration while doing your part for Earth Day 2021 from home.
